Question [Resolved] Extremely Slow Folder Loading.

I'm running on Windows Xp. I seem to be having a problem with loading folders (especially if it has lot of stuff). They load really slow. The task manager says everything is running fine and that nothing is eating memory (sometimes while loading the folder it will say that the folder is not responding). In safe mode the folders load fine. I've ran adaware, anti-virus, and spybot, nothing changes. I don't believe the problem is with the HD because is does the same thing when I'm trying to read off my external USB HD. Applications run fine. If anyone could give suggestions it would be great.

Thanks

Here's the HJT log. Which logs from Ewido would help?

Hya Tsuroku.

Youre hijackthis is clean , no problems there sofar. If you click on the "Prework" link below in my sig and scroll down abit you'll find instructions for Ewido , please run Ewido and post the log from it.

And lets do some cleaning up and such , that might fix youre problem:

Please download ATF-Cleaner.

Run ATF-Cleaner:
First check "Select All" , and then remove the tick infront of "History".
Then click Empty Selected.
When you get the "Done Cleaning" message, click OK.

install and run <A href="http://"http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4256.html" target=_blank>RegSupremePro.
It will want to make a backup of your registry , let it. Once it has finished, click on the Registry Cleaner tab, select Aggressive. When it has completed, click on Select, choose All. Click on Fix, and let it fix everything that it finds.

Please download <A href="http://grc.com/stm/shootthemessenger.htm" target=_blank>Shoot The Messenger

Download and run the small (22 kbyte) "ShootTheMessenger.exe" utility. It will display the current status of your system's Messenger Service. The button near the bottom of its window will allow you to set the service to whichever state — running or disabled — that you desire.

If, for any reason, you should ever choose to re-enable the Windows Messenger Service, simply re-run ShootTheMessenger to do so.

Then putt youre windows cd in youre drive and go to start/run and type sfc /scannow and let it run.

And i see you have both norton and avg installed , but avg is not running it seems? You have disabled the realtime protection of it?

Here's the ewido log. I ran ATF, reg supreme pro, and shoot the messenger. They all finished and I'm still having the problem. Regarding the "sfc /scannow" Is it neccessary that I have disk 2? I seem to only have SP1...

I have AVG because my Norton isn't totally up to date I haven't got around to payig for renewal yet and I thought it would be helpful to use AVG just incase norton misses something.

Looking forward to reply,

Thanks

*edit* I booted up in safe mode and the folders opened nicely w/o the problem. I then booted up in safe mode with networking and I got slow folders and folder crash again... Does that help?

It is possible that you would need an sp2 disc , but you can run it anyway. If it finishes without any errors then that is ok. If it does popup saying it cant find a file (or more) then post the file names please.

But you dont have AVG running full time protection , right? Because if you do have two AV's running at the same time then that could cause conflict and performence issues.

Looking forward to reply,

Thanks

Please do a Panda active scan here:

http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan

And post the log from it when done.

Default Sheesh....

I figured out what the problem was... A program called preforce. I guess it was trying to read everything I opened when it shouldn't have been. I uninstalled it and everything is working great now. Thanks guys for helping me with this. My comp is pretty much totally clean now ^_^
