Default PC freezing

Hello.
A while back I tried to extract a .rar which was over 4gb and my PC kept freezing each time at around 90%. I've looked around and found out that in order to unpack a file bigger than 4gb the file system on destination drive should be NTFS. So I converted it and it worked.
Now I'm trying to do it again, I have a 4gb archive and my PC keeps freezing. Also, I'm trying to make a DVD iso which is over 4gb as well, and I have the same problem. Using DVD Decrypter my PC freezes when it gets to 50%.

Please help.
I'm on Win XP, Celeron 700, 128mb RAM.
I've checked for viruses and haven't found any.

But I used to be able to unpack many 4gb archives in the past, and I didn't have more ram back then either :/

No, not all. Just the destination drive.

That will be the problem i think , the files probebly get cached first during the conversion process on the partition where youre dvd software is installed.

So you would need to reinstall youre dvd software on the ntfs partition , or make the O.S. partition also ntfs.

Thanks, I'll try that. What about the extraction issue ? Why was I able to unpack over 4gb of data a few weeks ago but can't do it now ?
