Question Too Many Drive Letters

I have Media Card Slots on my computer (Gateway Desktop), printer (Epson Photo) and on my Monitor (Dell)
All of these take up valuable Drive Letters and I only use the Memory Stick slot on the Gateway. Is there a way to Disable some of these slots and free up some Drive Letters. I map the drives in my office network and I have no drive letters left. Any Ideas?

I believe there are 24 drive letters available, you must need a lot of network drives!

But, I thought that drive letters where only used when a device (eg a memory card) is inserted. But I have contacted another member of staff who may be able to help you better.

Hey there Estochin

Would you be able to post the make/model of your monitor/printer and gateway system, we can then do some research into disabling those features for you.

However when you map network drives there is a max of 24 letters available. (as bdude pointed out)
So if your printer/monitor/PC use up certain letters, surely you would still have at least 18 letters there?

Zimbo -
My Monitor is a Dell 2405 (24 Inch Flat - with USB & Media Cards - I DO use the USB slots on the monitor, byut not the media slots.

The Printer is an Epson Stylus Photo R300 and I NEVER use the media slots on it.
Here's my drive config: (Why I need the extra drive letters)

A: Floppy
B: USB Floppy
C: Main Hard Drive
D: USB Thumb Drive
E: CD
F: DVD
G: USB External Storage
H: DVD External
I: Media
J: Media
K: Media
L: Media
M: Media
N: Media
O: Media
P: Media
Q: Media
R: Media
S: Media
T: Mapped Network Drive - Office 1
U: Mapped Network Drive - Office 2
V: Mapped Network Drive - Office 3
W: Mapped Network Drive - Office 4
X: On Line Storage (xDrive.com)
Y: Virtual CD
Z: Restore Partition of Main Hard Drive

So as you can see... "I through S" are all media slots that I do not use.

All my drive letters are gone and I could really use a few more to map the rest of the office drives.

Thanks for the continued posts.

Hey Estochin!
My welcome to PC Helpforum!

You can perhaps disable some via My computer (right-click) -> Properties -> Hardware tab -> Device Manager.

Look what it says about your devices in there.
Ask if you're not sure what to do.

Blue
