Default Only pressing SysRQ will get me into my PC?!?!

Computer Manufacturer: DELL
Computer Model: Inspiron
Operating System: XP home
CPU: Pentium 4 2.6 Ghz
Hard drive size: 40Gb
Amount of memory installed: 1024Mb
Sound card: onboard
Video adapter: Intel(R) 82865G Graphics controller
When did the problem start: about 2 days ago

When my PC switches to screensaver/XP startup page mode i am prompted to put in my password. No supprise there as that is how it's been set up for the last year. The STRANGE things is, is that after putting in my password it freezes and I am only allowed into my account if I press the SysRq key... i have no idea why... i even reverted back to a recovery point about a week before I started having this problem and it still persists...

As it is DELL, i have a pre-load version of XP, but no XP disc. i only have a system restore disc, but I am aware i will lose all data if I usethis. PLEASE help because I am very, very, confused.
