Default Lost USB functionality after virus attack

Hi,

I had a virus attack last night which my virus ware caught. The only thing is this morning I found that my computer had lost its ability to recognize external hard drives plugged into the usb ports.

The strange part is that it recognizes "memory sticks" plugged in these USB drives.

The external drive does work on other computes running XP with no problem.

How can I correct this?

Hi wonderwhy, let me first welcome you warmly into PCHF.

With regards to your problem, i suggest you doing the prework in here http://www.pchelpforum.com/hijackthi...html#post88795 as i believe the virus attack have already cripple some of the functionality of the usb ports. The prework will remove all the virus and the bad things in your com just to make sure that the virus is not tampering with the system. Just attach the 2 logs in here, and a tech will help you to solve it.

Matt
