Angry System Restore not working/ when I installed the Nero-Burning Rom had problems.

Hello To all who Can help ME,

I wrote earlier bout cd/dvd drive not showing up, I tried the cd/dvd fix, but it didn't work. tried uninstall then reboot, and still a no show. clicked on properties and it says:Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

Now when I first saw this, I said to myself, why not do a system restore. HaHa! guess what, I couldn't restore my system. Don't know for sure when this all went down as far as the system restore failing.

I am more concerned now bout my cd/dvd drive not working, becuase I want to clear the hard drive and start over. I use to restore the drive with my floppy, but that don't seem to be working either. the floppy drive lights up at every reboot. But the cd/dvd drive does not. Now if i open the cd/dvd drive, and close it, it lights up go
figure I say to myself.

Let me just give you my Hijackthis Log, which will follow after I say good-bye and please help a Sista Out!!! I am now going to relax and check with yall tomorrow or so. Yahoo Pool will do the Trick.

Oh one more thing; as far as the cd/dvd drive I think it started this past weekend when I installed the nero thing the image driver, becuase when I clicked on my computer it came up showing a drive D: and a drive E:, then today when I tried to use it, I had no drive at all. Like I said earlier Go figure Huh?

Edit: Please read next post from LGW before following these instructions, you may have malware infections, and this will not help at this time. LGW

Hi potatopiee67, to get System Restore working again, pop your XP CD (if you have one) in the CD Drive on your PC and go to Start, Run and in the open box type "sfc /scannow" (without quotes) and press enter. This will go through and replace any missing or damaged system files, to correct the problem. If you have a branded PC but not an XP CD, the files required for SFC are pre installed on your system already, so you just need to go to Start, run and type the command above and press enter.

If that still doesnt solve your problem, could you try a repair install. To do this follow the steps at this website. http://www.windowsxphome.windowsrein...pair/index.htm

Regarding your HiJackThis log, im not an expert in this area so one of the security team will have a look at it for you, so hang in there and do not pannick.

Hi PotatoePie,

I haven't had the pleasure, so let me begin by welcoming you to the forums myself. Computer's can be so frustrating. I need you to please make sure and only post malware logs like HijackThis as attachments, they can be dangerous to others.

Please carefully follow the instructions for PreWork in my signature, and post back the ewido, as well as the new HJT (HijackThis,) logs back here. It may be that you are infected and that's why your players and System Restore are missing.

However, if you in fact just want to wipe everything and start over, you should be able to access your CD drive on bootup, before Windows starts. (Make sure that you back up anything that you are able to this will completely remove everything from your computer.)

Please let us know which direction you want to take, troubleshooting malware, or just wiping and starting over, and we will guide you from there.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

Unhappy Did The Steps in Prework, what is next?

Hi ladygreen,

I did the prework as you suggested, but I still can't see my drive under my computer. I have attached my scan report from Ewido and another file. Just waiting for your response.

Hi PotatoPie,

Go ahead and paste it into your post, and I will convert it for you. But I still need your new HijackThis log.

Looking forward to your reply,
