Default Help new

Hello I just joined the forum, and need some suggestions,

I recently started using my Canon 20D camera making large files and writing them to my CD drive, I get pop ups saying data report failure to read not sure of the exact wording,

then I hear ticking noise from the drive (DVD or CD) and when I try to view the photos as thumbnails or open them up it takes very long and or freezes up everything, this happens often and now almost always

do I need to upgrade my ram from 512 or do I have a hardware isssue any help is greatly appreciated

Howdy fritz1 and welcome to PCHF,
Does the reports say somthing like the disc has bad blocks or cannot read disc etc.?

This can happen if you are using a scracthed cd or dvd. Do you have a brand new cd/r to try on?

Is the camera connected via usb or firewire?
And what operating system are you using?

And is the sound coming from your cd/dvd drives or inside the pc closer to the Hards drive?

Hello fritz,
So sorry for the olong delay between answers,

Can you right click my compter....Click on Mange....The click on the little + by event viewer..Next have a look around under the hardware logs and see what it has to say in there, also the software as well. Let us know what it says the most about your cd rom

Hello and thanks again there are three listings under event viewer, application log, security log and system log, I don't see hardware then there is shared folders, performance logs and alerts, device manager and so on. under event viewer I saw many application hang and a couple of them have DrgToD (Drag to disc?) mentioned in the lower portion after double clicking on it, I forgot to mention this is XP if it matters

Ok now click on Applications and see if there are any red or yellow marks in there about your cd

Next click on the system log and see what it has been saying about the dvd/cd problems.

This way we can tell if it is your cd/dvd rom or not.
