Exclamation Desktop shortcut problem

Hey all,

This is my first post with my first quandary. If there's a more appropriate forum for this question, please let me know.

As of about 2 weeks ago, I was able to drag and drop a Web site icon onto the desktop, where it would then automatically create a shortcut. Now I can't. The shortcuts to folders on the hard drive and software work, but when I click on a Web site shortcut, my print window opens -- as if I'd done a CTRL-P. Bizarre.

I installed Norton Internet Security and AntiVirus 2006 recently, and I'm using a Lexmark X75 printer (which I despise and plan to replace, BTW).

Any ideas on how to fix this are very welcome.

Thanks!

Howdy Ambit and welcome to PCHF,

Can you right click one of the Web shorcits and go to properties and let us know what it says. It looks like it may have been confused with opening with your printer.

Can you right click the links (instead of drag and drop) and click create shortcut?

Default More shortcuts to printer

Thanks for responding ...

Normally, I drag the little IE logo to the left of the address in the address bar and drop it on the desktop and a shortcut is created to that page on the desktop.

When I right-clicked on a desktop shortcut just now and selected Properties, it shows as a Web document with 'None" in the shortcut key field. When I right-click the icon to create a shortcut and then double-click on that shortcut, it opens my print window again.

Still clueless ...

????

Seems like somthing got messed with and it is trying to print.

Try right clicking again go to properties..advanced then see if internet explorer is opening it or if you can change "open with" then apply. Have you cleaned your IE temp files out laltely? I dont know if that can be a factor or not. It should read like this

http://www.pchelpforum.com/windows-x...t-problem.html

copy that and paste it in the first line.
