Hello,
I seem to be having a run of bad luck with my PC. After resolving my graphics card issue I now have another problem that I have been trying to sort for the last week (ish).
I wanted to format and reinstall Windows as im having some stability problems, nothing major, just a little annoying.
I have recently upgraded my CPU, Mobo, RAM and graphics card and can no longer install windows, details below :
I boot from the upgrade CD which works fine, initially. It runs through the initial driver installation process but at the point where it would then go onto the actual windows installation (ie, choosing the partition, reformatting etc etc.) I get the following blue screen error :
STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0xF748E0BF, 0xF78DA208, 0xF78D9F08)
PCI.sys - Address F748E0BF base at F7487000, Datestamp 3B7D855c
I have heard that there is a problem with SP1 and some hardware, dont know how true this may be. I have tried cleaning the disk with the same result. I have borrowed other SP1 disks from friends and the same problem. I have, however, managed to install from an SP2 CD (was a test to try and confirm the hardware compatibility problem), this worked fine but because it was an OEM cd I couldnt activate it with my CD key (or at least I assume thats why).
I did try a Win XP Home SP1 full CD and that worked but when it came to inputting my CD Key, it says the key is invalid ! This is the original key that I have used a few times before without problem. My next option is a lens cleaner incase there is a problem reading the disk which is causing the errors.
Does anyone have any ideas on what could cause this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
System Spec:
P4 3.0Ghz
2Gb DDR2 Dual Channel RAM @ 533Mhz
Elite Systems PF5 Extreme Mobo
GeForce 7600GT PCIE graphics
Soundblaster Live! 24 bit
Onboard Soundcard
120Gb Maxtor SATA1 HDD
40Gb Maxtor IDE HDD
Thankyou.

Hey ShaneH!
My welcome to PC Helpforum! Are you sure you made no mistakes in typing, and that the key and CD-ROM really belong together? Also are you using legit Windows software? Blue |

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. Ive checked the key several times, they definately go together and it is legit. Ive had it for some time and have done several installs with it when ive upgraded my system or had hardware failures. Never had any problems before. |

XP remembers 4 or 5 componets to see if it is installed on the same computer...since you upgraded 4 things ...it probably failed the test..this is probably why they did not accept your key.
You can call them with the number that comes up when you activate it ....and tell them that you upgraded all the componets and they will approve it via phone. |
