This is a relatively fresh install, as the last one had UPnP broken, which I need for my 360 to stream music, being my first post 'n all, I'm not going to expect miracles, but I can't do anything simultainiously, it was fine before hand, but now its impossible to play midis and browse the net without some form of lag to the noise, and I can't watch videos without the occasional glitch, it sounds to me like a Buffer problem, but Windows has taken longer to boot, which is a greivance to me, as it booted fine last week, also, it spazes out occasionally and reboots itself for no apparent reason, sometimes i'm just idleing, othertimes i'm playing games, I know this isn't much information, but I can provide more info if you want me too, also, this may be related, but, a few weeks ago, I was playing this game, MapleStory, when I went to get a shower, I just left my character standing, halfway through my shower my computer starts beeping, not through the speakers, but the internal one, and I come out to fine my processor temp at 70 C! (MotherBoard Monitor told me this) I s*** a brick and shut the comp down immediatly, only to find that the fan was clogged with dust, which is weird, this comps only roughly two months old, or atleast, thats what I was told, and, also might be related, but I can't seem to install drivers for a Mpeg2 card I got with the comp (It was a 2nd hand custom build) it says the drivers are not right or something, can't remember exactly, but anyways, i'm hitting the hay now, but if you need any info, don't hesistate to ask, I'd only have to download HighJackThis, or any other software, if it is of any help, I perform a Virus scan at boot, and a Spyware occasionally aswell, but the boot up lag is right after I hit enter to log in, and when Windows is loading essential files I.E. the little blue scrolly bar and the XP logo screen,
Your faithfully, Gareth
P.S. this is a god-dam long first-post, eh?

HI Gazza545, this sounds like a fan related problem. I think the best way is to have the fans inside change because overheating will cause the computer to lag very much , and if unsolved, will spoiled the whole cpu.

I've noted that my comp ran at about 55 C while it had the case on, after the cleaning, but now i'm running it open case, and according to AIDA32 its at 44 C (111 F) but it still lags, but I will look into replacing the fan with one from another computer I have lying around collecting dust, also i'll try removing the MPEG2 card I have, it doesn't seem to do anything as far as I can see but it does seem to have a Audio cable from my disc crive running to it, and the last time I removed that my sound card got disabled, but I probably didn't have it seated right, or at-all, but thanks for your advice, i'll try a diffrent fan in it after this game of Geometry Wars.
*Edit* My grammar kinda sucks on a keyboard, almost as much as my handwriting =P wow... major lag from MSN there, 0.o Last edited by Gazza545; 05-30-2006 at 03:58 PM. |

Howdy Gazza545,
Have you also tried defragging your system. What type cpu do you have? AN Intel or AMD? 44 is a descent temp. and 55c is ok if you have an AMD if it has been on for awhile. uder a descent load. Defragging helps a great deal. On boot up. and try this program as well will help speed your boots alot http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/S.../BootVis.shtml
