hello im new here first time posting . ok heres my problem 2 days ago i i got infected with a "bloodhound.w32.ep" virus and norton kept on coming up and it said that my computer was infected and that i couldnt delete it. so i tried a couple of different ways to fix it but i couldnt so my last option was to do a " system recovery" .. ooh and i have windows xp home edition... so i knew i didnt want to delete all my files cus i have all my school work some movies and other important stuff. so i remebered that once i did system restore and and when it was done all my files were still there and everythin was ok. so i tried this time to do the same thing but when it was all done i tried to go check my files but i couldnt find them . but the thing is that i checked my memory and its the same as before i did the system restore so i know all my files are still in my computer but i tried to got to my "C" drive and tried to open my folder where i know my file would be and i get an error message .. it says this " C:\documents and settings\Owner is not accessible access denied" so i dont know how to get in there is maybe cus i need a password cus i had one to log on to my account. and i also realized that theres a new "owner" folder but its called " Owner.YOUR-XHTR8HVC4P" .. so now im stuck im really depressed cus i had two of my projects and other really important stuff. so please someone help me or tell me where i could call so they can help me . thanks in advaced. oh yeah and in the system recovery it said that i wouldnt delete my created data files

Hi there!
Welcome to PCHF first of all. I'm afraid there arent any tech on at the moment but, dont dispair, I'm sure someone will get to you soon. :-) One thing for future reference, they probably could have gotten your infection cleaned without the windows recovery. But anyway. Once someone helps you sort this all out you might want to download some programs to protect your computer against infections. This link will show you how. http://www.pchelpforum.com/index.php?page=protect My personal preferences are Antivirus - AVG Anti spyware - Ewido and SpyBot Firewall - Zone Alarm Anyway, I hope they can fix ya up quick :-) PJ

Hya JMI.
Youre files are probebly indeed still there , see here for instructions on how to access those files again: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=308421 And since you are using XP home you'll need this to be able to access the security tap as mentioned in the instructions above: http://www.tweakhound.com/xp/xpperm/xpPerm1.htm
