Question 2nd HD just for music?? good or bad Idea?

Hey Y'all,

I was seriously thinking{not easy for me} about adding a separate hard drive just for music .

Also how many hard drives can one put into one PC?

If I was to add a 2nd HD would it have to have windows & portioned & all that stuff installed on it or would it be just for storage?

Would I need to get the same brand as my C drive now
This is just a idea right now because I would hate to clog up my HD with music I originally got a 120 G but was uninformed that the "restore it" takes up 1/2.

Thanks in Advance for the replies

Hey there Slowride!
I think thats a great idea personally. I too have toyed withthe idea of buying a second harddrive, but have never gotten around to it. Now, IIRC, you can have up to 2 hard drives in your computer at a time. The second hard drive wouldnt have to have windows on it. As a matter of fact, it would show up as another drive (as if you were to have a flash drive attached), and could be treated as such. You dont necessarily need to have the same brand as your C Drive.

Hope this helps,
Connor

What do you think about one of them External hard drives?

That would be like being able to take my whole collection with me
LOL

I get around sOOooo much!

If I put my music on my PC now I can move it later to a 2nd HD ?

Will it be hard to do?

Thanks

It will not be hard to do, just transfer over the files from one drive by pressing copy or cut and paste it into the drive you want it to be. The transfer rate will depend how fast your speed of your computer and how big are your music files.

External harddrives are also more expenisve...considering you dont know much about this type of thing, id be more inclined to reccomend that you do get an external harddrive, so that when it comes to installing the 2nd harddrive you dont have any problems or accidents whilst inside your PC Case....You can just plug into your USB and off you go.

Hm...Id say that if you had 2 different computers that you use a lot, or if you want to move the drive around a lot, then get an external one. However,if not, the internal ones arent that hard to install and will be just one less thing to look at.

I've been a auto tech for most of my life the screws don't scare me as much as accidentally having a program or a setting jerked around inadvertently.
{which has happened to me before}

Like I said if I'd know the Restore it was gonna eat up 1/2 the HD I would have gotten a bigger one.

What is the biggest HD that is available?

I can only find them up to 300 G's{i know its alot.

Does anyone have a guestimation of how much or what amount of space is on a typical CD as in G's as in the amout of space used on a HD
{just looking for a average}

Thanks Alot!
