I recently upgraded to SP2 on XP and like it fine. However, last night I was going through the services list and disabled some that I new I didn't need, like wireless servies and those related to printing (I don't have a printer) and the like.
Unfortunately, I got a little over zealous doing this and now the icon for my Windows XP2 Firewall is gonefrom the systray, and I don't even know if its still operating. In the Control Panel I can still find the option to turn it on or of, but I'm not sure that's doing anything.
Is it just the icon that's gone, or did I somehow disable the firewall, although I stayed away from security related services? I went through the list again, and in the disabled services I couldn't really find anything pertaining to it. Most of what I turned off is pretty obvious, like the "Smart Card" services, "Themes", and "Windows Time". Any Ideas? CHEERS!

Hi Debutante, with regards to your problem, if the control panel still says that your firewall is on, it's on, if it's off, it will be off. You can use the 2 computer icon on the bottom right of the screen, right click it and u can change your firewall settings from there.

The security center doesn't have any influence on the actuall security of youre pc , it only tells you if you have no AV , no firewall , or havent updated windows but it doesn't "do" anything itself.
I have removed the security center completly from my pc.
