I typed a detailed message last night but it bombed when I tried to post it and I didn't have the time to redo it then. Just now getting on this evening and it is late...will try and respond over the weekend. Just didn't want you to think I disappeared off the face of the earth.

Thanks guys!

Hello all. I almost fell off the face of the earth but everyday I keep thinking about getting back here and posting. I've had no freeze ups like before. I do have an occasional IE slow up and freeze but I can close that window and open a different one and go on my way.

The computer temperature varies quite a bit. Right now it is running at a low 49 degrees C. But it still gets as high as 60. Is this anything to be concerned about?

My teenage son had a cow that I deleted his Limewire in the clean up process. Now that things are moving okay do you think it would be okay to add it back in?

Thank you for all your help!
Cindy

I would not... those file-sharing sites are heavily infested with viruses/malware. Some of them (rumored) to be DELIBERATELY planted by record-company spies to discourage file-sharing -- in general. Limewire itself is not 'highly regarded'

Virtumonde is back! Webroot Spy Sweeper caught it on a sweep but it won't give me the option to remove it. It just tells me it found it is all. I tried a second sweep with the same results.

We have not downloaded any programs from the Internet (including Limewire) since we finally got it removed through the above posts.

I am assuming I need to go through the exact same steps to get rid of it again?

Let me know.

Thank you,
Cindy

Hya Cindy.

Just the vundofix part:

Please download VundoFix.exe from here , and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
  • You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
  • When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
  • Turn your computer back on.

Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

I can't seem to stay out of trouble. Don't know why with a gig of memory this computer is locking up. Ran Vundo fix but it didn't see anything this time. Ran Spybot and Ad-aware but both were clean. Spyware Blaster is on and supposedly working. Ran Ewido and cleaned 3 cookies out. Ran Hijack this and will attach the log. With 4 little kids and not much free time this is getting quite frustrating.

I thank you in advance for taking the time to look at my Hijack this log!

Cindy...
If you have tried all the spyware scanners... with nothing coming up-- I would look to software conflicts.
I notice from your HJT log that you have:
Norton Go Back/Ghost
BigFix clients both running at the same time.

I personally just uninstalled Bigfix's client --as it kept hanging at bootup. Whether this problem is related to your issues -- i don't know... but it's worth a shot. I've used BigFix for years-- and I do intend to reinstall it-- I believe that perhaps it got corrupted, or a new Windows Update 'broke' it.
I would run msconfig... and uncheck anything related to these 2 progarms-- and everything else not absolutely critical. Then Reboot.

If you are unsure of a process's origins --then google the exact file name... you should be able to figure out what it is/does.

Then you can slowly, one at a time... re-enable your programs and see if the symptoms return. You could just have too many things-- especially somewhat similar apps --all running at boot.
