What kind of network are you on... broadband/dsl/dialup?
If there is some kind of problem with your network card/it's drivers/loose connection/windows not recognizing your network --it would explain both sets of errors... live updater can't work if there's no connectivity.

Ever tried PC Pitstop?

http://www.pcpitstop.com/

Helped me with slow connection issues... which can be tough to track down.

As listed earlier I am on cable (by MediaCom). It is always on and I am connected when this happens...it's just that the computer freezes, the hard drive light is on solid with maybe an occasional blink, and you can hear the loud whirring noise comng from the tower. Nothing works...well the mouse moves for a while and it is showing the hour glass but you can't do anything with it as nothing else will work. C/A/D won't bring up the task manager or reboot the computer. I eventually have to push and hold the power button to shut it down. It is definitely the computer and not my internet connection. I am getting no connectivity errors (and believe me when the cable is down I get plenty of them when my mailwasher is trying to get my email for me!)

Please download VundoFix.exe from here , and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
  • You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
  • When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
  • Turn your computer back on.

Then in safemode , fix these entrys with hjt:
(if still present)

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {BDF90A20-C0DA-4FAE-95A2-AAA4D4D32B08} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddayy.dll
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {40D41A8B-D79B-43d7-99A7-9EE0F344C385} - (no file)
O16 - DPF: {9522B3FB-7A2B-4646-8AF6-36E7F593073C} (cpbrkpie Control) - http://a19.g.akamai.net/7/19/7125/40...2/cpbrkpie.cab
O16 - DPF: {A7EA8AD2-287F-11D3-B120-006008C39542} (CBSTIEPrint Class) - http://offers.e-centives.com/cif/dow...in/actxcab.cab
O20 - Winlogon Notify: ddayy - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ddayy.dll

Fix this one also unless you want to keep using that as startpage:
O14 - IERESET.INF: START_PAGE_URL=http://www.emachines.com

Reboot and then please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

Also , you processor is getting abit warm for a Pentium i think. Have a look inside the case and see if all the fans still work and not glogged up with dust.

Hi, some more symptoms to post and some questions to ask.

What is Vundo?

You say to "fix" the abvove in hjt but how do I go about doing this...is it intuitive in hjt?

I haven't cleaned my machine for a few month so it might be getting dusty...will work on that.

Now for the symptoms...ih8bills might be on the right track...I had said that I didn't think it was a connectivity issue but something going on with my computer. My cable modem and router lights were working appropriately so I didn't think there was anything going on with the connection.

However, today I was getting connection error messages with my mailwasher. No connection. I tried switching cables to a brand new one. No luck.

The CPU usages was fine this time though...only 2 percent.

I tried closing my IE windows that were open but 3 of them hung up and would not close. I had left my task manager running so incase things froze up and nothing could be "clicked on" so I could at least see what was happening.

This is good because I could not open my control panel or my network connections at all when IE froze. I couldn't end the process and close them either.

When things started gettin worse I noticed Spysweeper was using 25 percent. I exited out of it but wrssskd.exe was still using 49,940 of memory (zero CPU percentage though). I ended the process through task manager and then things started working (not the connection though). The IE windows closed. Control panel opened up (from clicking on it earlier) on it's own. The same with the network connections box.

I tried disabling the connection and enabling it again but then it could not renew the IP address. (at least I could use the mouse and click on things though!). I finally rebooted and then things started working just right again and the connection came on without any problems.

Will go work on the instructions you gave me and report back later. If I can't figure out how to "fix" things in hjt I will have to wait for your instructions though.

You all are wonderful! Thanks for replying to my posts!
Cindy

You'll see it automaticly probebly , just putt a tick infront of the listed entrys and after that pres "fix checked" at the bottum left.

And you might want to uninstall Ewido , that could be conflicting with spysweeper. That could cause the processor usage , but Spysweeper could also be trying to get rid of the Vundo , but to bad it cant get rid of it.

Lets see what happends when youre pc is clean.

Here are the Vundo.txt and hjt log after the fixes were run. I have not had time to open and clean the computer yet...hopefully tomorrow.
