Default ActiveX or Java problem?

When I attempt to listen to a local radio station online, a popup opens but then shuts itself right away. This didn't used to happen. Try to play a game on pogo.com, and same thing. These windows are some kind of site-specific popups (or maybe they're considered new, separate browser windows) that used to open and stay open as they should. This isn't a problem with any popup blocker I have, but I don't know what it is. I haven't changed any settings or anything -- just started happening 4 days ago by itself. Could this be related to ActiveX or Java? Thank you.

Howdy Thar Cowboy Tim,

Welcome to PCHF. We have a great group of techs here, and I'll wager we kin fix you up good's new. (sorry, I love trying to type in accents, couldn't resist.)

First of all, let's see what kind of RLM's (rotton little monsters) have taken up residence in your PC. If you would please carefully follow the instructions for PreWork in my signature, making sure to save your ewido log to your desktop to post back here with your HijackThis log. Also, please make sure to unzip HijackThis, (here after referred to as HJT, so I can type less) into its OWN folder.

Look forward to your reply,

TTFN

Hey, thanks, ladygreenwitch! Ewido and hijackthis logs are attached. Noticed that ewido scanned over 300,000 files -- AdAware scans about 187,000 files and McAfee A/V scans about 60,000 files. Odd.

Still have system restore disabled; I'll re-enable it when you say to. I did notice that the site-specific popups are now staying open again like they're supposed to.

Another weird thing happening within the last 4 days is that WeatherBug doesn't open automatically any more on system start-up, but QuickTime opens -- even though I've made th' appropriate selections in msconfig. Thanks again.

Good Job Cowboy Tim, GREAT Photo! Where do you hail from? My folks are from Oklahoma way back when.

Let me take a look at your logs, and I'll get back to you.

Well I'll be dogged. You got a couple a bad puppies try'n to mess up your 'puter.

Not too many tho. Do me a favor, download Spy Sweeper from my signature. Install and update it, then do a full system scan. Let it fix everything that it finds. At the end you'll get an option to save a log file, do that, and post it back here.

Also, rerun ewido, let it fix everything that it finds this time. Also, please post back that log.

And once again, run HJT, and post the new log back here.

Lookin' right forward to yer next post pardner.

SpySweeper cannot be downloaded from your signature; it took me to an invalid webpage. I went to the webroot site, downloaded the trial version, and could not update the definitions. I ran the scan anyway (which took QUITE a long time) and it found 10 items, but without a paid subscription it will not remove or even quarantine them. There is absolutely no option to save anything to a log file. I checked out its help screens, which were of no help.

I'll rerun ewido and HJT, and post those new logs. Thanks.
