For some strange reason my windows have all gotten wider and it's hard to see some things. They used to be more narrow but now they're wider. Can anyone help?

It's possible that this is to do with your screen resolution.
Could you open your display properties (Start - Control panel - Display - Settings) and try changing your resolution to 800x600 or if that looks too big then use 1024x768.
Apply the changes and see whether that solves your problem.

Have you tried adjusting the settings on your monitor (shrink it horizontally)?
