I tried everything, reinstalling it, rebooting pc, it still says check for new definitions. Then it says Your definitions havent been updated in 14 days. Definitions allow windows defender to detect the latest harmful or unwanted software and prevent it from running on your computer.

Hi IOWN,

Have you tried a reinstall of defender? It may solve your update problem (It'll install with current definitions) and may replace any files that you are missing to complete updates.

A quick google check brings up loads of people who have problems of some sort with updating Windows Defender.

See if this works , remove the current signature file. To do this, click Start, click Run, type Msiexec /x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C} , and then click OK.

Then try to update again.
