Windows XP/2000 - Gateway bios posted in the Operating Systems forums; I'm trying to change the bios in my gateway to boot from cdrom and can't get to it. I've tried every f1 f2 esc/pause...is there a reason I can't access ...

Default Gateway bios

I'm trying to change the bios in my gateway to boot from cdrom and can't get to it. I've tried every f1 f2 esc/pause...is there a reason I can't access the bios? Thanks..

Hmmm...it should be F1 for your PC. Maybe taking the bios battery and the power cable out of your pc for a couple fo minutes and then try again when they are re-inserted could fix this issue.

Okay, I got a new battery for the bios and hooked up the new harddrive and got into the bios and changed to boot from cdrom. Put xp in rom to install on new harddrive and now get error of ntdr missing. Funny thing is..I had forgot to put the new battery in when I first turned it on and got into the bios. So when I put the battery in and turned it on this error came up. Should I trash this computer? The motherboard says cru us the bios is ami and from what I've read I need to upgrade the bios? Anywhere to go from here to make this computer work? Thanks..

No need to trash it yet , make sure the bootorder in the bios is set to boot from:

A: floppie
B: cd/dvd
C: HD

And then boot of youre XP cd to format the drive and install windows on it. Have a look here for instructions if needed:

I can't get to the bios Joe..when I turn it on it just does the ntdr is missing error and says press any key to continue but when I press a key it says the same thing..
