Default Random System Shutdowns

Every once in awhile, sometimes once a day, sometimes several times a day, my computer shutsdown by itself. Its as if someone pulled out my power, my whole system stops, monitor turns black. It dose not go through that shutdown process built into XP. And I can not turn my pc back on by just clicking the power button. Before I click the power button I unplug the cord from my PSU directly to my motherboard, otherwise my computer will not turn back on.

This first started about two weeks ago, and I cant remeber downloading any type of unofficial program that could quite possibly destroy my pc (If anything at all...).

Now, my first assumption is going to be the PSU has problems. But, its a brand new one, I just got it like 4 months ago. But then again I do seem to go threw alot of PSUs for one reason or another.

PC Specs:
Windows XP SP2 (Everythings updated)
512x2 MBRAM
AMD Athlon ~1.8GHz
RADEON 9800 AiW Pro
NVIDIA AWRDACPI MOBO

Hi Vicond,

Do you have another power lead that you could try? If your system keeps shutting down and you have mess about with the power to start up again you may have a faulty cable. However, if you're going through a lot of PSU's, then it could be something to do with your motherboard. Are you using the correct power for your board?

I do not have another power supply I could try out at this moment, but I will get one sometime soon. And I had no idea a motherboard had a correct power, I thought it all depended on all the components in your system and how strong they are, stronger they are more wattage they need. I have like 420 watt PSU so I dont thikn that would be the problem.

Can you download and run this app:

http://www.pchelpforum.com/downloads...id=44&act=down

And report back the voltage and temperture readings?
(when the pc has been under load for a little while)

And does it happen at random , only when on the net , or only when playing games ect.?

vicond, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Thats the message I get when I try to download that app you linked me joe5.

And, I thikn it only happeneds when I play games? Thats all I do on my pc, it happeneds when im idle from my pc too, so maybe its completly random. And when im on the PC im always on the net as well as games.
