Default winxp to win 3.1 clipboard

I am still using a Win3.1 genealogy programme, I think it is better than the win98 version. But if I cut an image from a winxp programme, it won't paste into the win 3.1 programme. The programme won't recognize that there is anything in the clipboard.

Hi rbg and welcome to PCHF, the win3.1 application probably won't recognize 'where' the windows clipboard is. I think there's not a way to solve this problem, unless some of the other experts know of one.
As far as I can see the best thing to do is cut the image, past it in a application like photoshop or paintshop, save it and import the jpg or gif into your genealogy program

Lightbulb Windows 3.1 programs with Windows XP

Your problem must be related to the particular program. I still use WordPerfect 6.1 (a Windows 3.1 wordprocessor) for some purposes as it will do a number of things that are still not possible in Word 2003. There is no problem in general in copying from Windows XP applications and pasting into WordPerfect 6.1 but it is usually necessary to use paste special and maybe choose unformatted text. Is there any similar option in your program?

It is also possible to 'tell' Windows XP to run a program as though it were using an earlier operating system - though only back to Windows 95.

I have managed to run one program this way which would not work without making use of this option. Maybe that would help in your case.

Derek
