Default MS Outlook issue

Hi,
I?ve been using Outlook 2002 SP3 for some time, but recently find that when I send file attachments (Excel, Word, etc.) they are received as ?.dat? files, and are unreadable by the recipients.
The same problem does not occur in Outlook Express, which I now use when I send files to anyone.
But it?s a cumbersome workaround at best.
I?d really appreciate suggestions as to how to fix this issue.
Thanks.

Hi,

try sending the email in plain text format, that might work.

Maddox,
Thanks for your suggestion, and I'll give it a try.
But at a deeper level, do you have any idea why all files (.xls, .doc, etc.) are received as .dat files, and are not readable? Do you think it might be worthwhoile to reinstall the Office suite? The whole email issue isn't driving me nuts because I have a workaround, but if I didn't....
Anyway, thanks again.
