Default My Computer Doesnt read DVD's!!!!

Hi
Well the title of this thread summons up my problem but this problem is really getting on my nerves.
Every time I insert a DVD into my DVD drive, my computer basically doesnt read it. I go into My Computer>DVD Drive but then i get an error saying that DVD drive is empty.
Whats even weirder is that my computer only reads one DVD from my entire collection.
I really need help.

PS:My operator is windows XP
thnx

Couple of things to try:

Get a cleaning disc
Try a new/another IDE cable (from the motherboard to the drive)
Try another DVD drive in your PC - the DVD laser could be failing (sadly a common thing)....
