Default Problem with program advandlg.exe

My computer runs very well; however, almost daily my cpu will suddenly jump up to 100% usage all the time without any indication of which program is causing this usage in the task manager. upon trying to restart or shut down a window pops up saying that the program advandlg.exe is not responding and gives options to end now or cancel. After restarting i tried to locate this file but searching my computer including hidden files proved in vain. i was able to locate a mui cache reference to the file C:\PROGRAM FILES\MSNSPLAYS\ADVANDLG.EXE, but i am unable to locate that file or folder even after changing options to show hidden files in program files. I have an up to date virus scanner which does not pick up any viruses on my computer.

Can anybody help me remove or fix this problem.

thanks,

dan

Hya Dan , welcome to PCHF.

Boot youre pc in safemode (hit f8 when booting up) and then fix these with hjt:

O2 - BHO: SpywareBlock Class - {0A87E45F-537A-40B4-B812-E2544C21A09F} - C:\Program Files\SpyCatcher 2006\SCActiveBlock.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TaskMon] C:\WINNT\System32\taskmon.exe
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)
O16 - DPF: {41F17733-B041-4099-A042-B518BB6A408C} - http://a1540.g.akamai.net/7/1540/52/...eInstaller.exe
And then manuall delete the file in bold.

I would also disable the windows messenger sevice:

Please download Shoot The Messenger

Download and run the small (22 kbyte) "ShootTheMessenger.exe" utility. It will display the current status of your system's Messenger Service. The button near the bottom of its window will allow you to set the service to whichever state ? running or disabled ? that you desire.

If, for any reason, you should ever choose to re-enable the Windows Messenger Service, simply re-run ShootTheMessenger to do so.
When done , post a new hjt log to check please.

And it looks like you dont have a firewall , have a look in our download scetion for free firewalls.

started up in safe mode, but could not access where i had saved hijack this. Restarted in normal mode and moved hijack this to the desktop. After this repeated attempts failed to boot in safe mode. It loaded drivers in system32 folder but stopped at driver agp440.sys. I then booted in normal mode and fixed the items mentioned above in hjt. i then ran shoot the messenger to disable windows messenger. here is the new hjt log file as well.

also, i was unable to locate C:\winnt\System32\taskmon. maybe this is because i was unable to boot in safe mode. after posting i am going to try again.
