If you go to Control panel > Administrative tools > Services and check that Themes is started. Also, Right click My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Performance Settings and check that Use visual styles on windows and buttons is checked.

No, it's just the button and the start menu from what I understand, what I suggested should do the trick

Thanks for your help Tijay, but if your suggestion doesn't work, then there is another option. If it does work, then mine will be irrelevant. Better to have 2 options than one.

This bit? Ok, on your desktop you should have the 'My Computer' icon. If you right click that and select properties. The window will open up, and at the top the tab on the far right should be 'advanced'. Select this, and the next window will be displayed. Now, the top section should be labelled 'Performance', click the button that says 'settings'. Down the list that comes up, should be a box (normally last one) saying 'Use visual styles on windows and buttons'. Just make sure this is ticked.
