Default Dell Booting Problem

hi everyone, sorry if this is the wrong part of the forums to be posting this but i couldnt find anywhere else that might b suitable or let me post. so here it is.

last night when i tried to switch on my dell desktop pc the booting screen froze, i could tell this because the little progress bar stopped moving and after waiting a few minutes, there was no further progress. so i held the power button for 7 seconds or so to switch the computer back off. then switched it on again.

i did this a few times, and then eventually the pc after i switched it on went straight to a screen saying something (sorry i cant remember exactly) about the previous attempts to boot having been unsuccessful , and that i should contact dell technical support. i have done, but they are closed for the weekend. can anyone here help?

ill be forever in the debt of anyone who can give me some advice here.
cheers

Hi Belfast,

Welcome to PCHF. We have a wonderful team of techs here, and I am sure that we can help you, hopefully before the Dell guys comeback on Monday .

If this makes you feel any better, everybody forgets to write down the error messages. Let's start with some basic troubleshooting to see if we can narrow the field between hardware and software culprits.

Can you get into Safe Mode? (Continually tap the F8 key during bootup until either a beep sounds, or you get a menu. Use your arrow keys to choose Safe Mode, and hit Enter.) If you can, post back and we will troubleshoot from there.

Had you noticed any strange behavior in the computer prior to this freeze? Do you know if the PC has been running hot, or if anything unusual has happened recently, like a power outage?

We will be looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

LGW
