Default no op system

Hi,

My sisters laptop, Medion microstar has packed in.
When I boot it up it says no operating system.
I have no recovery disks to help me sort it out - my own for my PC don't work.
I have tried to copy floppy boots to CD and run them - no joy.
I have tried to the windows set up disk - The laptop tells me there has been an error and wont run xp set up. The blue screen thing happens.

Can someone help?

I thought I'd nothing more to do that run the xp set up/ format and or partition the drive and install xp.

Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome to the forum

Sounds like it could be your hard drive. Can you remove the hard drive and tell us the exact make and model number.

Default make and number is....

Hi Hengis,

How are you? Thanks for your reply.

I haven't opened the laptop, (yet) but can get into the bios setup, (I'm not too techy btw). In the set up it says....

Hitachi_DK23ea-20-(PM)

Does this make sense. If not I'll get the screw driver out.

Thanks,

I'm good thanks for asking

Ok, download and run this: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...ess-Test.shtml - it will create a bootable floppy disk that will allow you to fully check the health of the hard drive.

Default I will but....

I'll try that but the laptop doesn't have a floppy drive. Only a cd rw drive.

Can I download the files for the floppy and copy them to cd. If so how will this info boot. The laptop will boot fromm a cd. The problem may be that I don't know how to run stuff from dos.

I'll away and down load for now.

Thanks,

Johnnypict

Default I have....

I have downloaded the software you suggested and copied it to a cd. I have to run another CD I had to get the CD rw to workj and get a dos prompt.

I have now put the downloaded Cd in and typed <DIR> and I have....

ASPI <DIR>
AAUTOEXEC BAT
COMMAND COM
CONFIG SYS
DATA <DIR>
DFT <DIR>
DOS <DIR>

Can you tell me how to get the utility running.

Thanks again.

Johnnypict.
