Welcome to PCHF, thankfully for you this problem is a relatively easy one to fix!

How to take ownership of a file
Note You must be logged on to the computer with an account that has administrative credentials.

To take ownership of a file, follow these steps:
1. Right-click the file that you want to take ownership of, and then click Properties.
2. Click the Security tab, and then click OK on the Security message (if one appears).
3. Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.
4. In the Name list, click Administrator, or click the Administrators group, and then click OK.

The administrator or the Administrators group now owns the file. To change the permissions on the files and folders under this folder, go to step 5.
5. Click Add.
6. In the Enter the object names to select (examples) list, type the user or group account that you want to give access to the file. For example, type Administrator.
7. Click OK.
8. In the Group or user names list, click the account that you want, and then select the check boxes of the permissions that you want to assign that user.
9. When you are finished assigning permissions, click OK.

Hello Hengis,
Thanks for your reply. This is what I get when I rt. click the folder on the slave drive I want to get into to: There are only three tabs showing General,Sharing, and Custimize. Now I am the only administrator on this computor but on the slave drive which was the master before the crash, my husband and I were the only two administrators on it. Now someone told I must log in on this computor as an administator in "safe mode" but I don't know how to do this? And I am now the only Administartor on this new computor, so why would I have to log in again as the administrator?? Hope you can help me,
aurora59

Default Trouble with Slave Hard Drive

Ok Here is what I have done so far. I have logged on in safe mode and did all that you have instructed me to do to take ownership of the folder in the slave drive but when I restart and go back into the slave drive(E) nothing has changed I still donot get access to the folder. While I am in safe mode I can access it but can do nothing as far as coping, printing,or sending the folder contents to the main drive(C). What am I do wrong??

Hello Hengis,
I cannot add my user name (Dawn) to the list so I can have access to the folder so I have typed in "administrator" is this ok? It tells me the object "Dawn" cannot be found.
