Exclamation Dat Recovery in XP

I'm sure this is in the wrong Discussion board so if it is moved I will not be offended

Anyway, I have been given a computer that had Windows XP on it to help fix a BSOD. Well I upgraded from Home to Pro and it fixed the issue but the data is gone (though it was only an upgrade). I have tried to use Handy Recovery to recover their pictures, but this will won't find data after another installation of an OS has happened. Does anyone know of a good recovery software (preferably Freeware) that could find that data?

Thanks

Jason

I haven't had the need to use a recovery tool in these circumstances, although there seem to be a few listed HERE that may fit the bill for you.

Thanks, I'm going to try a few of the files on the links and hopefully they will help.

Are you sure the data isn't just hidden? Have a look with all hidden files set to show , maybe everything is still there. If they are , you might need this info to be able to access the files:
