Seems to hang or freeze when I shutdown..ran defra, regisrt cleaner, uncheck auto restart ...any other suggestions.

Also if "SpiceyAutum" is around what was the fiz to your shutdown problem, I read all of your 20+ suggestions and it did not give a fix..was it fixed or did you throw out the window?

Have you also tried sfc /scannow ? You can do that inserting your XP disc to your drive, and then type sfc /scannow into Run, in the Start Menu.
Also, you might want to check if this is malware related.
Could you please follow the Prework instructions in my signature and post back the logs.

I canot pin-point when this started happening...I tried restoreing but did not work and I don't want to go back too far.

to clarify when I try and - re-start - it will stop and hang at "windows is sutting down" I will then have to manually power down/up.

also when I try and "shut-down" computer will sound like it is sutting down but will get to black screen and stay like that...I again have to power down/up.

It will work in safe mode



I've followed web suggestions checked many web-sites and cannot find the help I need.

I did review all sites and did follow some hints...I however did not update my BIOS,...I guess I think it might be something other than that.
did I mention that when I "shut-down" itdoes not power down but gives me a black screen and again does not power down.
