Default [Resolved] Restarting PC Problems

Hey guys,

I got my new PC back (with the data back), and it worked fine... for about 2 weeks. Right now, it's giving me the problem of restarting at random points.

This is how it started: normally, I go on the PC in the morning, before I have to leave for school. I did everything normally, and then made it stand by. I came home, and it was still stood by, so I woke it up. I turned on the monitor, and it came up with the "no signal" sign.

Thinking nothing of this, I restart, and start windows normally. This time, it boots, and I try to start uTorrent and Thunderbird, and the computer restarts again. I let it go, leave the room for a minute, and come back, and the monitor doesn't work again. After this, I restarted again, and it seemed to work. I ran a virus scan, but apparently it never finished. I came up, and nothing. Restarted again, left the room again, and when I woke up the monitor, it was black and white with a resolution of 640x480 as well as lines of refresh.

After this, I started getting scared. Restarted, and booted in safe mode. I ran the virus scan again, but it restarted 2 times after this. I boot again in normal mode, and run the scan again. I watched it this time, and it restarted again. This time, I got a BSOD of some sort. It just flashed and then dissapeared.

I'm not sure what to do and I'm really scared. Can someone please help me?

Hey Yuiichi,

Do you have another graphics card that you could maybe try? If you're getting restarts and monitor reads, it could be that.

No I don't, unfortunately.

I also can't open up the PC. The company who built it put a warranty sticker on the case, and if I break it, the warranty is void.

Is there any other possibility other than hardware failure?

Hey Yuiichi. You mention warranty...any chance you can take the PC back and get it fixed for free?

I could try that, but I'd rather not.

You see, I really dislike the company that sold it to me (they gave me a lot of trouble). If worse comes to worse, I'll take it back, but if it's something I could fix, I'd like to try that first.

Also, theres the issue of hardware error vs software. If it's software, they'll charge me, since I installed the software myself. It's only hardware thats covered.

EEEkk...a true catch 22 situation. If we get you to look inside the PC then it will invalidate you warranty...if you can't then we may not find a fix

It does sound like either a graphics issue, RAM issue (my favorite) or maybe even heat related. You could try a tool such as memtest to run a full check on the RAM to begin with.
