Default Wont boot with 2nd Hard Drive

Hi Guys
Please help!

WINXP/2XSATA HDD/1GB RAM/ATHLON64 Processor

I have 2 SATA hard drives.
This morning my PC wouldnt start up. It tried to but then all power just kept cutting out after a few seconds.
I then tried disconnecting my second hard drive. After this Windows boots up with no problems at all.
When I now re-connect my second hard drive and try to boot up, I get this:

"NTLDR is missing
Press CTL+ALT+DEL to restart"

Thats all I get.
So basically I cant now use my second hard drive, although Im sure it hasnt broken down.
My PC has been playing up a little recently before this happened. Started crashing when it never used to and generally acting wierd sometimes.

Any ideas? PLEASE dont get too technical on me.....I really dont have much knowledge of these things. Please try to keep it as simple as possible! Im having to come into an internet cafe once a day to try get this sorted.

Thanks guys

welcome to PC Help Forum

Sounds like you may have set the jumpers incorrectly. Check that the main drive is set to master and the secondary drive as slave. See here for an explanation: http://www.pchelpforum.com/tutorials...e-your-pc.html

Thanks for the reply. I will check the jumpers when I go back to my pc, but I dont really think that is the prob, as I havent intefered with the jumpers at all since I got the machine, so they should already be set ok. Ive never had problems with this drive before.
Any other ideas?
Thanks

It may not be related to the hard drive at all - it could be your power supply unit failing. Is there any way that you can borrow/test another in your PC?

Another thing...altho maybe irrelevant as you haven't been into the PC lately - check that all cables are seated correctly (especially the SATA cables).

Hey
Ok here is the latest:
Jumpers are fine, cables are secure.
Now, if I press F6 repeatedly while starting up, instead of giving me the "NTLDR is missing" message, it does actually go into Windows and starts as normal, and everything works fine. This only happens SOMETIMES when I boot up now. Other times I get that message again and have to start up without my second drive! Obviously, I dont want to rely on pressing F6 each time I want to use my PC!

Whats going on?

Appreciate your input guys
