There are two computers in my house, on downstairs, one upstairs, the downstairs one has a router, however I am not using the routers connection, what I did is I put my downstair computers ethernet cord in to the router and the modem, then I used another ethernet cord to connect the CPU itself with the router, then I got another ethernet cord and plugged one side in to the router and the other side in to the upstairs computer so that it recieved the full 100 mbps instead of 54. The question is, do I have to fort forward even though i'm getting a direct connection and not getting routed a connection?
Thank You.

Hi and welcome to PCHF
If you are needing internet access you shouldn't need to port forward. The connection via the lan cable is a pure one and will work fine. Do you have any unusual restrictions already in place on the router or certain programs that you need to have two way connections to the outside world?

I already have internet access. I'm trying to host a game server on this computer(the upstairs one) for Jedi Academy. There are no restrictions on the router.

Will the game server be external (Internet) or internal (LAN) ?

It will be hosted on the internet. I already have it set up on LAN at the moment, can't get it on the internet though, my suspicion was that it was because a firewall was blocking it from going on the internet, and thats why I wanted to port forward so the server can connect through the firewall to the internet.

You will need to port forward UDP 29070 on the router for Jedi Acedemy.
