Default [Resolved] NTFS.sys Missing Or Corrupt

ok, let me set the scene, formatted my windows xp sp2 machine a month ago and ive just got it back to how i wanted it.

so i restart the machine yesterday and i get this error. "system32/drivers/ntfs.sys missing or corrupt..."

so i went onto the microsoft website and it told me to repair the file, so i tried that and it didnt make any difference.

i would prefer not to have to do another format.

any suggestions, baring in mind that i cant do a restore, because it wont boot in safe mode with command prompt

i would appriciate any help

Hey there

Could you get the error up on the screen and tell me what else is writen there e.g STOP 0x0 ..........

If you can't get into safemode then the only option you have is to boot off your Windows XP CD and choose a "repair" install.
When you perform a repair install you do not need to format your hard drive, it should install over the top of the current windows and repair any problems.
