it doesn't save to the desktop! Thanks for helping out i'm determined to get to the bottom of this!

ok i tried the hijackthis link and i get the run, save or cancel box come up. If i click open, nothing happens (same as before)
If i click save, the icon appears on my desktop for about half a second then vanishes!

See if you can do an online AV scan here:

If it works , then post the log from that please.

ok i tried that and the scan got to about 50% amd then it stopped and avast antivirus popped up saying virus was found and abort connecton

Possible causes of this error are:

Not allowing the application's ActiveX control to be downloaded.

Problems with the Internet connection.

The error could be due to a download error or an installation error due to lack of hard disk space, privileges etc.,...

Im pretty sure that is a false positive , try scanning again with Panda but temporary disable Avast.
