Default [Fixed] Mouse jumps into the corner.

Operating system is Windows XP Media Center Edition, thought it is referred to as XP Professional when I look at my specs through some applications.

When I first set up this computer, I noticed the mouse "jumping" into the corner or disappearing entirely. It hasn't stopped doing that and it's very annoying. In first person 3D games, the character will just look up and spin around and around. It's very annoying. Has anyone ever heard of this before? And why does my $900 computer do this ****?

I'm no PC expert, but I understand enough about them to know the mouse is supposed to stay still and visible and useable at all times and not do stupid stuff like it is doing.

I just wonder if other people that bought this Gateway Media Center PC have this same problem.

I'd appreciate any help and I'd really appreciate someone coming in and saying "Yeah, I've heard of that" or something that would comfort my tortured soul.

Hya Mac , welcome to PCHF.

Is it an wireless mouse? If yes , have a look if you can select different channels.

And have you also already tried to uninstall/reinstall the driver for it?

It is not a wireless mouse.

Yes, uninstalling the drivers was the first thing I did. But that didn't help.

It just seems wierd that it came out of the box with this problem.

Hi there, if you have a laser mouse (you know, the one with the red light underneath), you'll find that the cursor becomes erratic if you have a patterned mouse mat. Try using a plain mouse mat and post your findings.
