Default having trouble on a new install

ok im reformatting and reinstalling windows xp on a computer and am having problems. i have done this before on previous computers but never had a problem.

on this particular computer:

i deleted the existing partitions

then reformatted them NTFS

then it asks me where i want to install windows and i choose the partition that i just newly formatted

then it goes to the part where it says copying files, the meter reaches 100%

then it says your computer will restart and them resume setup

it never resumes, when it restarts, it just boots back up from the xp cd, and comes back to the initial screen asking if you want to install windows xp, and then on which partition...it never boots into windows to where i can complete the installation.

anyone know what i can do about this...i would greatly appreciate it.

thanks

Hi joho5, are you pressing any keys when it restarts, it should display a message saying press any key to run setup from cd or some thing like that, cant remember exactly, anyway when that message is displayed dont press any keys, it will load the setup on its own, let me know if this helped.

i am pressing nothing...it boots right into what it did before, just the screen asking if you want to install windows xp, then it asks you what partition you want to install it on, installs it...restarts and loops the whole process.

it nevers goes to the next step automatically like it says...one thing though:

when it boots from cd rom from the welcome bios screen when the computer boots

its says something like "no emulator, or emulation something something" that might be a hint for something. this happens when i reboot, and then its measuring drives, memory, etc...and then it says booting from cd rom, because i have the cd in the drive. then it displays something about no emulator or emulation

does that help?

What are you using to delete and format the partition?
It is easier to just bootup from the windows cd and then delete/recreate the partition during the install procedure , and then the drive gets formatted after you select the drive/partition to install XP on.

And are you using an IDE or SATA HD? And how is the bootorder setup in youre bios?

Are you using an slipstreamed or copied disc?

Also have a look in youre bios for any emulation options.
