Hi Joe,
I noticed I had already replied afrter I had clicked ,must be age you know, anyway am going to do what you said,have had a lot of trouble booting up in the last day or two,but its been ok the last 4 hours.

Went to the web site above tried to download the 4226 patch,mesaage came up " file is either invalid or corrupt,will try again sometime.

Joe,
Have now done all you have told me too,went to another site for the 4226 patch,installed it, then device manage uninstalled the 97 audio driver and restarted, every thing went well, got a bit worried when it asked do you want to change existing files but I bit the bullet and did it........Thank you for all your help I will see how it go's

Had a crash this morning,event viewer said the following'

How does one replace the optical drive? I think we are getting somewhere,seems more stable than it did.

Hi Joe,
What I have done is device manager, on the via'97 digital audio I unticked it so to disable it, restarted and it downloaded another, so lets hope thats it. many thanks for taking the time and troulble with me.

Incase you still get that error , what is the brand and model of youre cd/dvd drive(s)?

And also are you actually using a cd/dvd drive when you get that error?
