Hello Dennis,

Welcome to PCHF. I sincerely apologize for the late response. We have a wonderful group of techs here, and I am positive that we can help you resolve this irritation.

Can you please begin by helping us to rule out malware as a cause? If you would please carefully follow the instructions for PreWork in my signature, making sure that you save the ewido log to post back here along with your HijackThis log, that would be very helpful.

Quite often, when odd things happen with Outlook Express it is malware related.

Look forward to your reply,

TTFN

Default Outllook express troolbar problem

LGW,
Thank you for your reply.
My problem still exists
Upon opening Outlook express 6 (Win XP Pro) the toolbar may or may not appear. I have to left click the (left) edge of the tool bar to bring it back. This will happen even after being minimized then maximized.
Attached are the 'logs' as requested.
I do hope I did everything as directed.
Looking forward to your help and reply.
Dennis

Hya Dennis.

I would uninstall Logitech Desktop Messenger in add/remove programs , but other then that it looks good to me.

Ewido did remove a trojan though , maybe that fixed the problem? Or is it still happening?

Hey Guys,

@Joe, just checking, your suggesting the removal of the Logitech Desktop Messenger in order to get rid of the preponderance of Backweb entries it installs, correct?

@Dennis, Could you please download Spy Sweeper from my signature, install and update it. Also download Shoot the Messenger the same way.

Then I would like you to boot into Safe Mode, (continually tap the F8 key while booting up until either a beep sounds or a menu pops up. Use your arrow keys to navigate to Safe Mode and press Enter.) Once in Safe Mode run CCleaner again according to the instructions you used before.

Now run Spy Sweeper, click on Options, Sweep Options, and make sure that all of your hard drives are selected, and under What to Sweep, make sure everything is selected EXCEPT Do Not Sweep System Restore Folder. Click on Sweep, Start. When it is finished, let it fix everything that it finds.

Next you have Windows Messenger enabled. This program is non essential and leaves you open to PopUp attacks. Run Shoot the Messenger to shut this down.

Now run CCleaner again, and reboot into regular mode.

Run HijackThis again, and fix any of these that are still present.

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Works Calendar Reminders.lnk = ?
It appears that your Microsoft Works Calendar may be damaged, you will want to test your calendar reminders.

Then please reboot your computer and let us know if the problem is still occurring.

Look forward to your reply.

Thank you Joe5,
I did notice that Ewiedo removed a Trojan, however, the problem still exists
Also, I removed Logitech messenger as suggested.
My problem isn't a serious one but it is annoying.
Looking forward to any other suggestions.
Dennis
