Windows XP/2000 - how to get rid of icons in taskbar posted in the Operating Systems forums; I know there is a way to stop some programs from starting on bootup and show in my taskbar, can't remember what it is. Help??...

I know there is a way to stop some programs from starting on bootup and show in my taskbar, can't remember what it is. Help??

From the Start Button go to Run and type msconfig in the command window and hit OK. The Startup tab is what you are looking for. The items you decide to disable will not load at startup and the icons won't show on the systray area of the Taskbar. Check here for those items that are safe to disable: StartupList Index

In addition, you can rt. click on the Taskbar, select Properties and check "Hide inactive icons".
