Default Unable to boot to log on screen

I have been having progressively more difficulty getting to log on at bootup. I get the following error message - "the system could not log you on. make sure your user name and domain are current. Then type your pass word again. letters in passwords must be typed using the correct case."

This message appears on top of the log on page. I would click "OK" and then log on. This week the message and the log on page appear for a split second and then the compuer hangs at the "windows is starting up" splash screen. Rebooting has the same results. I was finally able to boot by locating the "OK" spot on my monitor screen and then if I click the "OK" fast enough when it appears for that split second, I can access the log on page and continue booting.

At this point, I do not shut down. I let the computer run full time until I can get a solution to this problem. The computer works fine otherwise and I have no obvious spyware, viruses etc.

As the only user of this computer, I would prefer that it boot directly to desktop and bypass the log on screen.

Hi Deanvet,

Welcome to PCHF. We have a terrific team of techs here, and I am sure that we will be able to sort this out.

First I would like to rule out malware as a culprit. Can you please carefully follow the instructions for PreWork in my signature, make sure to save your ewido log, and unzip HijackThis to its own folder. Post both of the logs back here and we can get started.

Look forward to your reply,

TTFN

LGW

Hi there Deanvet.

Im not sure whats up but give this a try , download and run this utility:

http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Autologon.html

And select to disable autologon first , and then re-enable it. It sounds like youre pc is trying to autologon on bootup but failing for some reason.

Hey Joe,

Do you think it not worthwhile to look for malware also? Your call on this.

Sorry. I did not see the long instruction procedures before I replied. I will work on all of that today. I have most of the programs that you recommend.
