Default [Answered] Physical Problems on Drive?

Hi, I tried to defrag my system using systemworks pro 6 but after it had completed about 16% It reported that it was unable to defrag drive C:\ This may be due to Physical errors on the hard drive, use drive medic to scan drive. I did this but it reported the drive was healthy with no errors. If I need a new hard drive I can buy and fit one but what else could cause systemworks to report the error. The Computer does freeze very rarely, but that is why i bought systemworks. Would it be worth trying another drive checking utility? I would be grateful for any suggestions.

try this: http://www.pcpitstop.com/pcpitstop/diskhealth.asp

http://www.hddlife.com/

Also, if you post the exact make and model of the drive we can see if there is a manufacturer utility.

Thanks Hengis I tried both utilities and it said the tempreture was 52 Degrees Centigrade, I went to the maxtor site and downloaded the operation temp specs for my drive and guidelines for airflow management. After I opened the case I found the M/board cooling fan was no longer seated on the board, One of the mounting clips had come off on the board so I clipped the fan onto 2 of the remaining 3.After hour inside the pc case armed with cable ties There was a more even airflow and the current temp of the HD given the same operating time is 12 degrees Centegrade cooler. Not Ideal I know but untill I can purchase another system cooling fan It will have to do. Anyway Thanks for your help it is aprreciated

No problem - would you be happy for me to mark this as [Resolved] or is there anything else I can help you with?

Would it be Ok if I showed you the error log from the HDD health program? and tell me if you think My HD needs replacing. As for cooling methods I was going to purchase a hard drive cooling tray with fans & heatsink from aria.co.uk do you think this would keep my HD below 42 degrees Centigrade?. i have the case open to keep it at that for the moment. Appreciate your help. Thanks again. (I have uploaded the log file for your analysis)

Sorry, missed this one....

Yes, a hard drive cooler will do a lot for your cooling issue BUT it would appear from your log that the drive in question is pretty badly damaged, sorry. See how it performs when properly cooled.
