Default Setting a default theme for every user

Here at work we have a department that uses touch screen pc's that are running xp pro. I have created a theme where basically the only thing different that I did is enlarge the caption size buttons so it would be easier to click stuff. However, the only thing I have found in the group policy or registry is to set a default theme under the users area. I cannot find anything anywhere in the computer config. Anyone know a way of setting a standard theme for everyone that logs onto the pc?

Hi & welcome to the forum

Are you looking to apply a different theme for different users or do you want to force one single, standard theme for all?

Hey Hengis, I would like to force one theme for everyone who logs on to the pc, any info you have would be excellent. I might of come up with two options, let me know what you think. The first I could set .man profile and point to the theme I created, or under the GPO set the merge option under "User Group Policy loopback processing mode" to apply the user settings along with the computer settings?

Default Profiles

Hi cashewx,
Welcome to he PCHF,

I'v asked aound and there are two ways to do what you want.
First way for a smaller network that you need to do on each pc
Create a new User with admin rights
Set up the desktop etc as you want
Log on as a different user with admin rights
Delete the contents of the existing default profile and copy the contents of the one that you set up above.
remove the admin rights of the second user and log on as normal.
You will need to copy the defult profile from the original pc to all the other pc's on the network.

Second way for a larger network with a server
Creat the default pofile as above but copy the default profile into the ntlogon folder on the server so that all the pc's pick up the profile from the server.
Hope that this helps, let us know how you get on

Hello All, sorry I was out of town on business. Running a mandatory profile seems like a great idea, however I have a group policy running on an OU of the touchscreen pcs that these need to be implemented to. I have the option to force the theme and I have the unc pointed to a shared directory, however with my theme it's being saved as a *.theme. When someone logs on it defaults the theme to windows classic, meaning that the theme could not be loaded. Most examples are given in *.msstyles to setup the policy, however everytime I save a theme it's stored as a*.theme. It seems like for this to work I'm going to need to save it as a *.msstyles files, which is something that only microsoft can create it seems. Arg, any opinions? Thanks
