Default [Fixed] All programs have "encountered a problem..."

And need to close. Yesterday after a few seconds of running a wide variety of programs, including Word, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Help and Support, and eMule, they all wanted to close. Today it seems limited to the internet-based programs, but it all happens a few seconds after opening the program. I have run my avast! thorough boot-scan and also ad-aware full scan and while they did pick up some malware, the problem is not fixed. I have recently installed daemon tools v4 and it said something about not using a kernel debugger but I don't think I have/use that, so I don't think that's the problem. It's the only system type of thing that comes to mind recently though. HELP, thanks.

Have you tried a registry cleaner?

Good idea. I seem to have about 200 registry problems. I'll report back if this fixes it.

Correction: 800 registry problems. BUT it didn't solve it, everything still crashes.

Have you tried to do a virus/spyware scan while in safe mode?

Hi there iMagnusX , welcome to PCHF.

Give this first a try:

go to start / run and in the run window type in:
sfc /scannow >enter
Have you XP CD in youre drive, and it'll run itself, replacing any missign or damaged protected XP files.

But it sounds indeed like a good idea to check for mal-ware. Have a go at the "Prework" instructions , see link below , and post the 2 resulting log files.
Then we'll have a look at that.

Did all steps. If I had to guess, I think the problem was some bug that ewido picked up that was in the system32 file with a .dll on the end. But you can draw your own conclusions. Thanks a lot.
