Exclamation Random Reboots

Okay so here is the problem, sometimes while I'm playing a game it will lag a little bit, for like 2 seconds. Then the computer will freeze and eventually (within 5 seconds) it will just turn off. Now this also has happend once while logging into my name and it was loading all of my startup appz and the same thing happend freeze then immidiately turn off. I did try and turn off my onboard sound, thinking it could be part of the problem, but it didn't really do much, or so it seems. But when I do boot up windows it wants to check the disk everytime, well when it turns it's self off that is.

The other problem I have run into, is when it turned off while I was logging in it seemed like some of my files somehow got corrupted. I thought it might have been a virus or maybe some registry problems. So I scanned the registry and fixed the problems (Tuneup Utilities 2006). Also, I did a virus scan and it found no infections (Zone Alarm Pro). So then I thought it could be the hard drive, maybe it was on its last leggs. So I ran that checkdisk utility thats in the properties\tools on the hard drive, and it found no errors.

Any Ideas?

If you know how to get into your bios (ask if you don't) - check the temperatures and post them here.

39-40c

I had it so it turned off at 60c but I don't think its getting anywhere near that b/c I'm not overclocking at all right now or before and the side of my case is open.

I'm updateing the drivers on my sound card, maybe that could be contributeing towards the problem.

Default Memory

Hi there Briguy2004,

The problem sounds like it might be memory related, try running the test from here and let us know how it goes.

All right, but one thing to duely note is that when it turns off, the disks actually turn off and before the system it's self does. I can hear the disks turn off and the screen stays at what it was doing just before. Which, In my opinon is farely odd.

One other thing to not is usually when I wake up in the mouring the computer will be off, eventhough I left it on the night before. Now I don't have it go to standby or anything like that. Nor do I have it where the disks will turn off. And the only thing I have running would be trillian and azureus.

All of this is completely beyond me but I will definately test my memory. Speaking of memory, I was haveing more problems before untill I took a stick out and some of the problems, or the regularity seemed to lessen.

If it's not the memory, I was thinking could it possibly be the PSU? I mean I don't have all that much, 1 Sound Card, 2 EIDE HDDs, 1 Floppy, and 1 CDRW. You think it could be the hard disks them self.

I don't know if I told you but I'm running x64 if that helps any.

What's the wattage of your PSU, I've had my pc freeze up because of a lack of adequate power. Try removing some of you're excess drives...particularly optical as they tend to be more easily done without. If that solves your problem than you might consider getting a more powerful supply.

Even though your chasis is open, and convenient that it is, try running a household fan through it before you start tearing drives out to see if maybe heat is an issue.

If none of that works, we should rule out malware, plese follow the instructions in the Prework link in my signature and post the requisite logs, our security guys will take it from there.

BTW, welcome to the forums, enjoy your stay.
