Default CPU temp.

Had a couple of blue screen warnings lately, ie windows has shut down to prevent system damage. Had three different reasons from microsoft after error reporting. One driver error unknown driver error, second time hardware failure, CPU . Motherboard. Power supply. or RAM
Have been checking the cpu temp with motherboard monitor, and also in the bios settings after pc has been running for a few hours. Both state temp of between 67 and 71c/ Is this right for an AMD Athlon 2600. fan speed is running at 1900rpm. There is no case fan running although I think there is one fitted, motherboard monitor states case temp as 36c. Do these figures seem normal. Is there a site to check if they are correct? TNX

Hi sbowler!
I see that you've got an ASUS mainboard. Do you have a CD with Asus Probe on it? That's a kind of motherboard monitor, but created by Asus and for Asus products. Also, you're CPU temps are quite high. I thought AMD could get to 80C before there's a possibility of damage, but if you're able to I would try to do something about it.

Default Temp Sensor

Hi Sbowler,

I think that te CPU will put up with the temperatures but it will shorten the life of it. Ideally you need to try to bring them down a bit. Try reseating the cpu fan with new thermal paste (only a very thin layer) and get the app from here to monitor your temperatures. Let us know wht the temps are and if you need further instructions on sorting out your cpu fan etc.
