Exclamation Computer freezes

Hey PCHF, first of all i have to apologise as i didnt know where to put this. Ok over the last week or so, my computer (from a cold boot only) has decided to freeze on me during startup, specifically at the hardware screen BEFORE the Windows XP Splash Screen, and also it will freeze on the Windows XP Splash Screen. Sometimes i have to power off manually 2/3 times before i can get into Windows. Its done it again today, when i power on. I have gone into Safe Mode and done spyware scans/virus scans but to no avail.

The only software i have installed is:

The Movies
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire 2nd Edition

Hiya Wayne,

How are you doing?

Have you tried the sfc utility? Sounds more like either a system problem or a hardware malfunction to me.

Look forward to your reply,

Using sfc /scannow at present, and please lets hope its not a hardware problem as i havent changed anything, since the PC was bought back in November last year, apart from adding a wireless card, that my dad installed and he didnt touch anything, while inside the case.
