Alright Ffirst of all I couldn't get xp to boot from a cd nor a could I get DOS to boot from a floppy. I checked all the connections and all the jumper settings and all were fine. I also took the time to check the BIOS settings to change the boot order in regardes to which media I was trying to boot from.

When I tried to boot from a floppy it gave me an I/O error. So thinking it could be the cable I switched them, and got the same error message. So then thinking it was the floppy drive iteself I put a differant floppy in my computer yet I still got the same error. So then thinking it was the floppy drive controller I went to bootable cd's. So I tried to get my winxp pro cd to boot but it gave me an error along the lines of "Cannot boot into dos- please restart" So i did and it came up with the same message.

So after that I tried installing xp pro on one of my hard drives while hooked up to one of my other computers. It worked fine on it but the second I went to go and boot it up on my new computer it came up with an error of "nldf not found" or something like that I can't remeber right now and I'm at school.

So I'm at wits end on how to go about fixing all of this. BTW my specs for the new computer if it helps are:

Biostar Geforce 6100
AMD 64 3000+ Newcastle Core
1gig Ultra PC3200 DDR

Oh and another thing before I tried a new install I just put my hard drives in there with a previous installation of xp on it and it got to the xp logo and like 5 seconds later it blue screen for a qick second and then restarted.

Welcome to PCHF from me as well. We have a wonderful team of techs on staff here, and I am sure that we can help you solve this puzzler.

First of all, a few preliminary questions. The PC that you are referring to, worked correctly prior to your installation of the new HD?

Have you Fdisked the OS drive, making sure that the partitions are intact? It may be necessary to delete and recreate them, then format the drive, and then reinstall XP.

I am not sure why your floppy drive should stop working, as your BIOS recognized the drive as being there.

Hardware is not my area of expertise, however, if you would please post the answers to my questions, I am sure it will help the hardware gurus figure out what is going on.

Well I had both hard drives in my previous computer prior to all of this. I know they both work for the fact that I connected them to a differant computer I have.
As for the partitions yes I did, well I'm pretty sure I did when I went to install windows XP but even before that I formatted the drives.

So really from my older computer (1yr old) I recycled both my hard drives which before I started on this computer they were both intact and working properly.

Can anyone help me with this, its really important that I can get this fixed and your help would be greatly appriechiated.
