Default [Fixed] XP Install problem

Hello all, after spending the last couiple of days at war with my internet connection, and with much help from joe5. I got things working again but windows just wasn't quite running right. So decided I should porobably try a reapir install. Everything was going well until windows decided it couldn't find certain files, and there were alot of them mostly dll files. Eventually it aborted the install, so now I have half an OS. Well, I figured I was mad enough to just do a clean install, now THAT install tells me it can't find "driver.cab" on the CD. Am I totally screwed here?

 Hey There UA,

Joe5 is the greatest, isn't he? We think so.

Anyway to your question; I need to ask you a few of my own. Did you do a complete reformating of your drive prior to your reinstall? Has this CD done a clean install before? If you did a reformatting, did you use NTFS or FAT as your file format?

Look forward to your reply,

TTFN

Yes Joe I am having a hell of a time here. As for the CD it looks good, I have two of them in fact, the first one has done a couple of installs, the other one has SP2 and has never done an install. I haven't used the SP2 disc at all, I was afraid they would have conflicting info. They both look to be in good shape. Yes I delted my partition and had windows reformat in NTFS.

Can you try it with an other cd/dvd player?

Yeah I thought about that. But no, I only have one player, well the one on my laptop also, but that certainly doesn't do any good. I have an external HD also, but I don't see that really helping me.

 Hey Utterarmy,

Go back to the Fdisk and start over, use the SP2 XP disk, it won't cause conflicts because it is already set up with SP2, because you have a partially installed OS, rather than trying to fix it, which is just going to cause problems down the road.

It will also take you less time in the long run, believe me, I've been there. :cheesy:

Look forward to your reply,
