Default Windows Installer *.tmp files etc.

I recently did a *System Restore* w/WinXPPro SP2. The *roll back* put me right in the middle of an *uninstall/re-install* sequence. The result is when I boot the system, the *Windows Install* looks for the CD to install the program. The program has already been installed and operates perfectly.

Question: How do I get rid of the *Windows Installer* attempting to install a program at the reboot? Is deleteing all the *.../Installer/ *.tmp* files appropriate? or is there another suggested method?

Help would be most gratefully appreciated.

Option 1 here looks like it will work for you: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/885626 - look down at the bottom of the article for your specific issue (Workaround Method 1).

This is the PATCH that the article refers to.

Hi guys.

I think you misread the prob Hengis , he isn't in the middle of an windows installation but an app of some sort is running the Windows Installer on bootup.

I think this uttility might be able to help:

Ok but the fix I posted is all about the problems generated from a system crash in the middle of an SP upgrade - very similar situation. Thanks for the other info, I think that together we will fix this for Dan
